Satellite hacking: The politics of cyber security in space

Given the vitally important role that satellites in Earth’s orbit play from an economic and military point of view, among other roles, it is perhaps surprising that more attention isn’t given to the possibilities and consequences of cyber attacks in space. Dr Bleddyn E. Bowen, a Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Leicester whose research specialisms are space security, space warfare and classical military philosophy, focuses in this article on the strategic factors to be considered when thinking about the ‘big picture’ of cyber security in space.
